DACA Professional Licensing Restrictions and Employment Implications

Hello Desirae! Thank you for your post. I totally agree with your take on the DACA recipients’ licensure rejection or their non-renewal to work in the United States (Cook & Herron, 2018). This is a matter of grave concern for DACA recipients that they would neither be able to take on their existing roles as professionals, nor would they be able to renew their practicing licenses. This means that over 70 professions will lose over 9000 people who have been approved of DACA to practice in the United States (Cook & Herron, 2018). It would definitely create a wreak-havoc in the country and the situation could be aggravated if the DACA recipients retaliate. Moreover, it would be a chaotic situation as far as the workforce as well as the economy of the United States is concerned.

I believe the government should make justified and lawful policies for the betterment of the residents of the United States and not just create a chaotic situation to deport the DACA workforce. I would thus, urge the policy makers to review Article 23 of Universal Declaration of Human Rights that enshrines lawful employment of every citizen and make policies keeping in mind the rights of their own country people.

DACA Legal Challenges and Government Policy Decisions

Feedback 2

Hello Katherine, Thank you for your post. There are some points from the post that I would like to lay emphasis upon. For instance, the unlawful judgement on deportation of the DACA recipients by the Trump government, which has now been declared illegal by the US Supreme Court (Williams, 2021). Moreover, President Joe Biden has directed the secretary of homeland security to take actions that are deemed appropriate, lawful to fortify and preserve DACA (Williams, 2021). This is indeed a relieving step for DACA recipients for the time being but putting the new applications on hold is again a step to review and to be acted upon lawfully. I would, therefore, urge the policy makers to work in the best interest of DACA recipients and they should also consider the new applications to avoid any chaotic situation or retaliation by the DACA recipients.
